PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REPORT
The Weaver Union School District (WUSD) has prepared a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) Report in accordance with Education Code section 17213.1, subdivision (a)(4)(B). The WUSD has submitted the PEA Report to the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) for review and will make the PEA Report available for public review and comment pursuant to Education Code section 17213.1, subdivision (a)(4)(B).
Project Designations:
WUSD New Elementary School
A 4.051 +/- acres of vacant land being a portion of Merced County Assessor’s Parcel Number 061-582-001 and an 8.00+/- acres of vacant land being a portion of Merced County Assessor’s Parcel Number 061-250-091
Project Location:
The project site is located west of Camus Parkway, north of Blix Avenue, east of Albert Drive, and South of E. Childs Avenue in Merced, California. The physical address has not yet been identified and recorded with the City of Merced. The new school will have 24 classrooms, administration, auxiliary spaces, offices, a library, and multi-purpose buildings with play areas, play fields, and associated parking and drop-off lots. The site is for kindergarten to grade five. The school site will serve 600 students.
Description of Assessment:
The PEA investigation was conducted at the site to determine whether hazardous materials were released during past activities. The PEA Report summarizes the results of the environmental investigation and recommends No Further Action.
The PEA will be available for review at the following locations:

Public Comment Period:
The public comment period for the draft PEA Report begins on April 5, 2024, and concludes on May 8, 2024. Written comments on the PEA Report will be accepted during this public comment period. Please mail comments on the “Proposed Tuttle Elementary School” to: Susie Fagalde, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, 1240 D Street, Merced, CA 95341. Email comments to sfagalde@weaverusd.org
School Board Meeting:
The Project will be included on the Weaver Union School District board meeting agenda on May 8, 2024. At the time, a public hearing will be held to receive any comments on the PEA Report. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held in the Weaver Middle School Library located at 3076 E. Childs Avenue, Merced, CA 95341
