Transportation Rules

Parent(s)/Guardian (s) may request by note that their children get off the bus at another location other than their regular stop. To be released at an alternate bus stop, the Parent/Guardian must write, sign, and deliver to the driver a note indicating the stop at which the student will be released.  

For bus changes, phone calls must be made before noon (12:00 p.m.). Otherwise, all students who ride a bus to school must ride that bus home.

The following rules have been established to guide expected behavior for all students riding a school bus: (All buses are equipped with video cameras to monitor student behavior.)

*Riding the bus is a courtesy that the district provides to students and their families. Students can be suspended from the bus at any time if they do not follow these rules. 

1. Prior to the bus's arrival, students are expected to respect the property of others and avoid all horseplay. There is no bullying or fighting between students or parents while at the bus stop. 

2. Upon the school bus's arrival, the students are to stand clear of the bus until it has made a complete stop and the doors have opened. There is absolutely no pushing or shoving when walking up to the bus doors. Stay in a single-file line.

3.  All students shall sit facing to the front of the bus and remain seated at all times.

4.  No student shall board the school bus with any sharp objects. (i.e., pencils, sticks, toys, weapons of any type, etc.)

5.  No unnecessary noise or commotion shall be permitted on the bus.

6.  Students shall not use vulgar or profane language on the bus.

7.  All students shall keep their hands to themselves.

8. Students shall not use their cell phones unless there is an emergency.(There is no video/audio recording or picture taking, no viewing of videos or photos, etc.)

9.   Students shall not eat/drink on the school bus. (i.e., candy, seeds, gum, soda, sports drinks, etc.)

10. Students shall not shoot, throw, or leave any debris of any kind on the bus.

11. Students may not wear sweatshirt or jacket hoods while on the bus at any time.

12. Students shall not deface or destroy the bus. Students shall be subject to a fine if damage is found.

13. NO glass containers or animals are to be carried on the bus.

14. NO flammable liquids are allowed on the bus. (Perfumes, Colons, Hair spray, etc.)

15. Students shall only carry school-approved materials on the bus.

16. Students shall not smoke, vape, or light matches on the bus.

17. Students must bring notes from home authorized by the office if they are to ride a different bus or a non-bus rider to go home with friends.

18. Students shall show respect towards other students and the driver while on the bus.

19. Upon exiting the bus, students shall not cross the street or highway to the bus's rear at any time. They are to go directly home.

20. All students must cross in front of the bus while being escorted by the driver at all times. No parent shall escort their child. (Vehicle code 22112)

21. Parents picking up students have to be parked on the same side as the bus at non-escorted stops.

22. Students riding on a school bus shall be under the authority of, and responsible directly to the driver of the bus at all times: (H. P.H. 82.7 (6-10)

23. The District has the right to refuse service anytime if any of these rules are violated.

* Exceptions, with conditions, may be made on long field trips by the school district administration.

Authority of the Driver

14103. Authority of the Driver.

(a) Pupils transported in a school bus or in a school pupil activity bus shall be under the authority of, and responsible directly to the driver of the bus, and the driver shall be held responsible for the orderly conduct of the pupils while they are on the bus or being escorted across a street, highway or road. Continued disorderly conduct or persistent refusal to submit to the authority of the driver shall be sufficient reason for a pupil to be denied transportation. A bus driver shall not require any pupil to leave the bus en route between home and school or other destinations.

(b) Governing boards shall adopt rules to enforce this section. Such rules shall include, but not limited to, specific administration procedures relating to suspension of riding privileges and shall be made available to parents, pupils, teachers, and other interested parties.
